Next up in our The Sound of Music blog series,  we have Tommy Avery!

Tommy, what did you enjoy most about this experience?
I enjoyed meeting other children from other schools who have the same interests. I also enjoyed doing the dance routines as this is something I like, but don't get the opportunity to do much of. I enjoyed being pushed beyond my comfort zone and realising I can do better.

What was the most challenging thing?
I found the singing part to be the most challenging because you can easily hit the wrong notes or end up screeching or running out of breath!!

How did you prepare in between the various auditioning days/sessions?
After each day of auditions, I would rehearse the songs that I had learnt in the bath. I would also go through the dance routines in my living room and practiced my lines in my room in front of the mirror! Also, during the audition days, I would practice the various routines in the corridors of the theatre and even in the toilets!

What will you remember the most?
I will remember my new friends and how talented and passionate everyone is. I will also remember how tough real life auditions are and how terrifying it is to go through every elimination round.

What are your top auditioning tips?
* Rehearse your lines very well because when you are on stage in front of judges doing multiple things, it is easy to forget your lines
* Ask for advice from the production staff - they are very willing to help and give suggestions as to how you can improve
* Listen to the instructions you are given and do not get side-tracked or distracted as this can cost you the audition
* Try to smile even when you are very nervous

Which musical would you want to be in, and why?
I am really hoping to be offered a part in The Sound of Music as it is a great story with catchy songs that everyone knows and I can picture myself as part of the Von Trapp family!
